Letters: to C. W. Paynter /by C. W. Smith, 1889-1890.

Going to Kansas City to buy groceries for his business in Springfield, Ohio, Smith ended up buying real estate in Guthrie, Oklahoma. From there, he writes his partner, C. W. Paynter, that this was the time to buy more lots and build on them to prevent claim jumpers from building on them. He hopes that Guthrie will become the capital of the territory. By July 3, 1890, Smith's investments had fallen through, leaving him impoverished.
